Discovering the Undiscovered Illustration

This original illustration is for an assignment that required me to use a stock image as loose inspiration in order to explore art styles as well as my own personal illustration style.
For this illustration, I was given a selection of adobe stock images to choose from, with themes ranging from the futuristic to the fantastical. I was immediately struck by the stock image pictured below because of the unique little creatures inside of it. I enjoyed their expressions and hoped to recreate it within my own art style and with my own (limited) skill set. Ideally, I wanted to incorporate both of the creatures, but ended up really liking the design of the pink one because of its extra eyes. I recreated it best I could, and incorporated the blue creature in a small way in the drawing. I wanted to continue with the cartoon style further by including heart-eye pupils for all of the extra eye stalks. I think that helped make the story I was trying to illustrate much clearer. What could be more fun and fanciful than a monster in love? Below you'll find the thumbnail I drew for this illustration.
This is one of my very first adobe illustrator projects, so there are some things I would change in a revision. Overall though, I am happy with the end result and excited to grow my skills in adobe illustrator.
